Therapeutic Gardens
Healing gardens: when plants heal
Therapeutic Gardens are a new and important resource in the treatment of mental and physical disabilities. The benefits of an activity done in a natural setting are blended with the value of a prescribed course of treatment according to medical protocol.
Science + experience in garden design
The idea arose from a combination of scientific expertise in neuro-psychiatric disability plus experience in the design, care, and maintenance of gardens.
Andrea Mati’s therapeutic-garden model
Because of his well-developed interest in social issues, Andrea Mati began to create designs for therapeutic gardens – intended for those with Alzheimer’s, Down’s Syndrome, autism, or addictions – after many years of landscaping. This garden can reduce loading doses, combat depression and other forms of mental impairment, and offer effective support for the reintegration of socially disadvantaged individuals.
Thus, the starting point for a truly integrated path in a therapeutic garden is the benefit and sense of well-being resulting from greenery, which can lead to the remission and rehabilitation of a person with a clinical pathology.
Rehabilitation gardens at treatment centers and private homes
Originally designed for healthcare facilities and treatment centers, where the experimenting took place, the MATI 1909 therapeutic gardens can be also reproduced on a smaller but equally effective scale for private homes.
